I purchased the Raggtopp Fabric Soft Top Cleaner & Protectant Kit for the hood of my Z4, as it was 3 years old and was in need of some protection. The KIT is very easy to use. You just wash the hood with the cleaner and some water. You wait to dry (it helps if it is a sunny day) and then you are ready to apply the protectant. It is very easy; you just spray evenly on the hood vertically and make sure you cover all the hood. You can apply up to 3 layers (I did 3 since it has never been treated to any protection before, but I guess one layer is enough if you do it every 3-4 months), you just have to wait 10-15' to dry, before each extra application. All in all it took me about 1 hour for washing and applying 3 layer, but most of it was waiting time  For me it is an excellent product and you can really see the difference after the application...water is repelled and dirt does not stick to the hood so easily. Plus, it is priced very reasonably (cheaper and easier to use than the BMW Hood Kit), easy to use and on top of all these, it is recommended by the Haartz company, which is the company that makes most of the convertible hoods, including the BMW ones.
